This walkthrough shows what your students see when they use the Homework Help and Skill Session features from their homepage. Understanding this flow helps you guide students who need support getting started.
Where Students Access These Features
From their homepage, students see a box with two entry points: Homework Help and Skill Session. Both are self-initiated — no educator assignment required.
Homework Help — Uploading an Image
For Homework Help, students have two upload options:
- Upload from device — select any image file, including photos of handwritten work
- Scan with phone — a QR code is displayed; students scan it with their phone camera to upload a photo directly
Homework Help — Typing an Equation
Students can also skip the upload and simply type an equation or question directly into the chat bubble. Beacon by K12 Tutoring starts a session immediately from that input.
Skill Sessions
If a student wants to practice a topic but doesn't have a specific homework problem, they can type a subject or skill into the chat — for example, "quadratic equations" or "algebra." Beacon by K12 Tutoring initiates a focused skill session guided by their input, with no educator involvement required.
