This walkthrough covers the full assignment creation flow — picking a course, selecting skills, choosing exercises, reordering them, and sending the session directly to your students' dashboards.
Step 1 — Open the Assignments Tab
After logging in, select the Assignments tab from the top navigation bar (alongside Insights and Workspaces). You'll land on the Create Student Assignment page, which walks you through building a session in one flow.
Step 2 — Choose a Course and Select Skills
Across the top you'll see a scrollable row of course tabs — from grade-level math (4th Grade Math, 5th Grade Math, etc.) to specific subjects like Geometry, Intermediate Algebra, and Precalculus. Select one by checking its checkbox. The Select Skills panel below loads that course's skills automatically, organized into collapsible topic groups. You can search by keyword or expand groups and check individual skills.
Every skill you check appears as a pill in the Selected Skills area beneath the panel. The relationship is bidirectional — unchecking a skill removes its pill, and clicking the × on a pill unchecks the skill in the panel.
Step 3 — Choose Exercises
Scroll down to the Select Exercises section. Each exercise card shows the topic, skill name, the actual problem text, and the expected answer — so you can see exactly what your student will be asked. Exercises are paginated (5 per page); use the Previous / Next buttons or page numbers to browse. You can select up to 10 exercises per session — the counter in the header (e.g. 3/10 selected) tracks your progress.
Step 4 — Reorder Exercises
Your selected exercises appear in a numbered list below the exercise browser. Use the drag handle on the left of any card to drag and drop it into a new position — this is the exact order students will see the problems. You can also remove an exercise from the selection by clicking the × in the top-right of its card.
Step 5 — Fill in the Assignment Details
When you're ready, click Assign Sessions. This takes you to Step 2 of 3: Assign to Students, where you fill in the following fields:
- Assignment Name (required) — AI-generated based on the skills you selected, but fully editable. Students see this name on their homepage.
- Assignment Description (optional) — AI-generated and editable. Use it to give students context for what the session covers and why.
- Select Students — search for and add individual students, multiple students, or entire workspaces. Selected recipients appear as pills.
- Due Date (optional) — pick a date from the calendar picker.
- Remove assignment from student homepage after X days — check this box to automatically hide the assignment after it's been available for that long.
Assignment Details chips at the right of the form show a summary: Estimated time, Total skills, and Total exercises.
Step 6 — Track Assignment Progress
After setup, you land on a dedicated 3-step progress page. The page Prepares Assignments while in the queue, Creates Sessions as they are built, then either Assigns sessions when everything assigns correctly or shows any issues if any sessions fail or students are skipped.
You can track progress via Sessions Assigned, Sessions Processed, and Issues panels. A percent bar shows assignments that are In Progress and Done as well as Issues. Each row updates live with its status (Waiting, Creating Session, Created, Needs Retry, or Skipped) and shows a workspace pill when the session is assigned to an entire Workspace.
If any sessions fail to assign or skip students, use the Retry Failed button. A Create Another button will display once all sessions have been successfully assigned.
